Hydraulic Oil Back�flushing<br />
The special sucti<strong>on</strong> arrangement for purifier sucti<strong>on</strong><br />
in c<strong>on</strong>necti<strong>on</strong> with the ME engine (Integrated<br />
system).<br />
The back-flushing oil from the self cleaning 6 µm<br />
hydraulic c<strong>on</strong>trol oil filter unit built <strong>on</strong>to the engine<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>taminated and it <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> therefore not expedient to<br />
lead it directly into the lubricating oil sump tank.<br />
The amount of back-flushed oil <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> large, and it<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>sidered to be too expensive to d<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>card<br />
it. Therefore, we suggest that the lubricating<br />
oil sump tank <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> modified for the ME engines in<br />
order not to have th<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>taminated lubricating<br />
hydraulic c<strong>on</strong>trol oil mixed up in the total amount<br />
of lubricating oil. The lubricating oil sump tank <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
designed with a small ‘back-flushing hydraulic<br />
c<strong>on</strong>trol oil drain tank’ to which the back-flushed<br />
hydraulic c<strong>on</strong>trol oil <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> led and from which the lubricating<br />
oil purifier can also suck.<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>Th<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g></str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> explained in detail below and the principle<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> shown in Fig. 8.08.01. Three suggesti<strong>on</strong>s for the<br />
arrangement of the drain tank in the sump tank<br />
are shown in Fig. 8.08.02 illustrates another suggesti<strong>on</strong><br />
for a back-flushing oil drain tank.<br />
The special sucti<strong>on</strong> arrangement for the purifier <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
c<strong>on</strong>s<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>ting of two c<strong>on</strong>nected tanks (lubricating oil<br />
sump tank and back-flushing oil drain tank) and<br />
of th<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> reas<strong>on</strong> the oil level will be the same in both<br />
tanks, as explained in detail below.<br />
The oil level in the two tanks will be equalizing<br />
through the ‘branch pipe to back-flushing oil drain<br />
tank’, see Fig. 8.08.01. As the pipes have the<br />
same diameters but a different length, the res<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>tance<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> larger in the ‘branch pipe to back-flushing<br />
oil drain tank’, and therefore the purifier will suck<br />
primarily from the sump tank.<br />
The oil level in the sump tank and the back-flushing<br />
oil drain tank will remain to be about equal because<br />
the tanks are interc<strong>on</strong>nected at the top.<br />
When hydraulic c<strong>on</strong>trol oil <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> back-flushed from<br />
the filter, it will give a higher oil level in the backflushing<br />
hydraulic c<strong>on</strong>trol oil drain tank and the<br />
purifier will suck from th<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> tank until the oil level <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
the same in both tanks. After that, the purifier will<br />
suck from the sump tank, as menti<strong>on</strong>ed above.<br />

ensure that a good cleaning effect <strong>on</strong> the lubricati<strong>on</strong><br />
oil <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> obtained.<br />
If found profitable the back-flushed lubricating oil<br />
from the main lubricating oil filter (normally a 50 or<br />
40 µm filter) can also be returned into the special<br />
back-flushing oil drain tank.<br />
