Certain functi<strong>on</strong>s would betransferred to a new NOAA: Nati<strong>on</strong>al Marine FisheriesService functi<strong>on</strong>s; all functi<strong>on</strong>s performed by theNati<strong>on</strong>al <strong>Ocean</strong> Service; Nati<strong>on</strong>al Envir<strong>on</strong>mental Satellite,Data, and Informati<strong>on</strong> Service functi<strong>on</strong>s; Office of<strong>Ocean</strong>ic and Atmospheric Research functi<strong>on</strong>s; andNati<strong>on</strong>al Weather Service functi<strong>on</strong>s. Other programswould be transferred to other existing agencies: coastaln<strong>on</strong>point polluti<strong>on</strong> functi<strong>on</strong>s would be transferred tothe Envir<strong>on</strong>mental Protecti<strong>on</strong> Agency; aer<strong>on</strong>auticalmapping and charting functi<strong>on</strong>s would be transferred tothe Transportati<strong>on</strong> Administrative Services Center at theDepartment of Transportati<strong>on</strong>; and functi<strong>on</strong>s relating tomapping, charting, and geodesy would be moved to theU.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This proposal was part ofa larger proposal to terminate the Department of Commerce.It was introduced again in 2001 (H.R. 375).
