Amendment ICongress shall make no law respecting anestablishment of religion, or prohibiting thefree exercise thereof; or abridging the freedomof speech, or of the press; or the right of thepeople peaceably to assemble, and to petitionthe Government for a redress of grievances.Amendment IIA well regulated Militia, being necessary tothe security of a free State, the right of thepeople to keep and bear Arms, shall not beinfringed.Amendment IIINo Soldier shall, in time of peace be quarteredin any house, without the consent of theOwner, nor in time of war, but in a manner tobe prescribed by law.Amendment IVThe right of the people to be secure in theirpersons, houses, papers, and effects, againstunreasonable searches and seizures, shall notbe violated, and no Warrants shall issue, butupon probable cause, supported by Oath oraffirmation, and particularly describing theplace to be searched, and the persons or thingsto be seized.Amendment VNo person shall be held to answer for a capital,or otherwise infamous crime, unless on apresentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, exceptin cases arising in the land or navalforces, or in the Militia, when in actual servicein time of War or public danger; nor shall anyperson be subject for the same offence to betwice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shallbe compelled in any criminal case to be awitness against himself, nor be deprived oflife, liberty, or property, without due processof law; nor shall private property be taken forpublic use, without just compensation.Amendment VIIn all criminal prosecutions, the accused shallenjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, byan impartial jury of the State and districtwherein the crime shall have been committed,which district shall have been previouslyascertained by law, and to be informed of thenature and cause of the accusation; to be confrontedwith the witnesses against him; tohave compulsory process for obtaining witnessesin his favor, and to have the Assistanceof Counsel for his defence.Amendment VIIIn suits at common law, where the value incontroversy shall exceed twenty dollars, theright of trial by jury shall be preserved, and nofact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise reexaminedin any Court of the United States, thanaccording to the rules of the common law.Amendment VIIIExcessive bail shall not be required, norexcessive fines imposed, nor cruel andunusual punishments inflicted.APPENDIX AAppendix A 803
