This centre contained an archive ofresearch reports written by its former students – administrators preparing forservice in the Maghreb and sub-Saharan Africa. Although I only refer to a fewof these reports, many others have served to enlarge my understanding ofFrench Administrative ideas and practices in AOF. The CHEAM has closeddown in December 2000. Its archives have been transferred to the Centre desArchives Contemporaines in Fontainebleau (CACF), where they are accessibleunder filenumbers 2000.0002. There exists a small repertoire of all CHEAMfiles at CACF under their original file code from CHEAM.
