ETO Case 000­Mauthausen­4, U.S. v. Arnold Damaschke, was tried at<br />

Dachau, Germany, April 22, 1947, before a General Military Government<br />

Court. The defendant, a Waffen SS master sergeant, was accused of partici­<br />

pating in the execution of inmates at Mauthausen <strong>and</strong> Gusen<br />

Concentration Camps. As approved by the reviewing authority, Damaschke<br />

was sentenced to death. By order of Gen. Lucius Clay, March 22, 1948, the<br />

findings <strong>and</strong> sentence were disapproved <strong>and</strong> the defendant released from<br />

confinement.<br />

ETO Case 000­Mauthausen­5, U.S. v. Kurt Otto, was tried at Dachau, Germany,<br />

during the period March 12–13, 1947, before a General Military Government<br />

Court. The defendant, a German national <strong>and</strong> member of the Waffen SS (rank<br />

not known), was accused of participating in the killing of inmates at Steyr<br />

Concentration Camp, a sub­<strong>camp</strong> of Mauthausen. As approved by the review­<br />

ing authorities, Otto was sentenced to death.<br />
