International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), where it remains today.<br />

<strong>Records</strong> in the custody of the ITS were gradually accumulated at Arolsen<br />

from numerous sources. A four–volume Catalogue of <strong>Records</strong> held by the<br />

International Tracing Service of the Allied High Commissioner for Germany<br />

at Arolsen (1954) provides a general inventory of all records held by the ITS<br />

as of December 1953. Most “Concentration Camp <strong>Records</strong>” (described in<br />

Volume I) were originally seized by the Allied western armies <strong>and</strong> assem­<br />

bled at Arolsen after their use by the International Military Tribunal at<br />

Nuremberg <strong>and</strong> Allied War Crimes Commissions. Concentration <strong>camp</strong><br />

records designated “postwar” were assembled from Allied military agencies,<br />

UNRRA, IRO, <strong>and</strong> other sources. Mauthausen Concentration Camp records<br />

are described in Volume I of the ITS catalogue under four categories: col­<br />

lective records, individual records, films, <strong>and</strong> miscellaneous records of gen­<br />

eral or historical interest. <strong>Records</strong> of Foreign Countries (Austria) described<br />

in Volume IV may include information on <strong>camp</strong> survivors.<br />
