Prosecution witness M. Jean­Frederic Veith, a French inmate at<br />

Mauthausen, testifies to the employment of slave labor at Mauthausen <strong>and</strong><br />

its sub­<strong>camp</strong>s by companies contracted to support the German Luftwaffe.<br />

He also testifies regarding illegal medical procedures, “Aktion Kugel,” <strong>and</strong><br />

the Sept. 1944 killing of 47 Allied downed flyers.<br />

Prosecution witness Francois Boix, a Spanish inmate at Mauthausen, sub­<br />

mits photographic evidence establishing the presence of defendants<br />

Kaltenbrunner <strong>and</strong> Albert Speer <strong>and</strong> other high­ranking Nazi officials at<br />

Mauthausen. He also testifies regarding <strong>camp</strong> conditions, the mistreatment of<br />

religious persons, <strong>and</strong> mass executions, in particular, of Soviet prisoners of war.<br />

Defendant Hermann Goering is questioned regarding his knowledge of<br />

“Aktion Kugel” at Mauthausen.<br />

During his examination by the defense, Kaltenbrunner denies knowledge<br />

of or complicity in war crimes committed at Mauthausen <strong>and</strong> explicates on<br />

his peace initiatives <strong>and</strong> contacts with the International Red Cross on behalf<br />

of civilian internees. Kaltenbrunner claims he did not give orders to kill or<br />

evacuate inmates in the last month of the war, but ordered that Mauthausen<br />

be completely h<strong>and</strong>ed over to the enemy without ill­treatment of inmates.<br />

Under further questioning, he denies ordering or witnessing executions at<br />

Mauthausen.<br />

With defendant Arthur Seyss­Inquart on the st<strong>and</strong>, a piece of evidence<br />

is submitted documenting the Feb. 1941 deportations of Jews from the<br />

Netherl<strong>and</strong>s to Buchenwald <strong>and</strong> Mauthausen.<br />
