III.31 Mauthausen Concentration Camp Entry Registers<br />

These original registers st<strong>and</strong> as a separate entry in RG 238. The four<br />

bound, h<strong>and</strong>written volumes are arranged by inmate number <strong>and</strong> give name,<br />

nationality, <strong>and</strong> date <strong>and</strong> place of birth. Additional h<strong>and</strong>written notations<br />

in pencil indicate sub­<strong>camp</strong> <strong>and</strong>, in red ink, date <strong>and</strong> place of death, <strong>and</strong> date<br />

of escape, transfer, or release. As indicated below, there is one missing volume<br />

for inmate numbers 30,001–50,000. This gap is repeated in the copy of<br />

the numerical register of prisoners in the custody of the International<br />

Tracing Service (see VII.9 below).<br />
