Original Mauthausen <strong>Records</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong> Special Collections<br />

II.1 Original Mauthausen <strong>Records</strong> are records produced during the<br />

operational lifetime of Mauthausen <strong>and</strong> its sub­<strong>camp</strong>s prior to libera­<br />

tion. The most important of these in the custody of the <strong>National</strong><br />

<strong>Archives</strong> are <strong>camp</strong> entry <strong>and</strong> death registers <strong>and</strong> original <strong>camp</strong> photog­<br />

raphy included in the “Francois Boix Photographic Collection”<br />

described below.<br />

Mauthausen Concentration Camp Entry Registers<br />

Entry 59, location:190/13/25/07, boxes 1–2<br />

These original registers st<strong>and</strong> as a separate entry. The four bound, h<strong>and</strong>writ­<br />

ten volumes are arranged by inmate number <strong>and</strong> give name, nationality, <strong>and</strong><br />

place <strong>and</strong> date of birth. Additional notations written in pencil indicate sub­<br />

<strong>camp</strong> <strong>and</strong>, in red ink, date <strong>and</strong> place of death, escape, transfer, or release (see<br />

III.31 below).<br />
