3rd U.S. Army “Reports of Information of Alleged War Crimes,”<br />

Aug.–Oct. 1945, mainly sworn statements by SS personnel at<br />

Mauthausen <strong>and</strong> former inmates. Also included is documentation<br />

authenticating war crimes atrocity photographs taken by the U.S. Signal<br />

Corps. Other items include a statement regarding the murder at<br />

Mauthausen of opera singer Frederik Jelinek, given by his brother, Karl<br />

Adelbert Liebl, with a photograph of Jelinek; duplicate copies of 3rd<br />

U.S. Army investigative reports; miscellaneous prisoner­of­war inter­<br />

rogation reports by military inmates at Mauthausen, Feb.–May 1945;<br />

<strong>and</strong> a May 24, 1945, OSS report of hospital conditions <strong>and</strong> medical<br />

crimes at Mauthausen <strong>and</strong> Gusen.<br />

3rd U.S. Army “Report of Investigation of Alleged War Crimes” at or near<br />

the Concentration Camp, Ebensee, Austria, Aug. 2, 1945, signed by inves­<br />

tigator Lt. Charles B. Deibel. Numbered exhibits include transcribed tes­<br />

timony, h<strong>and</strong>written statements with English translations, <strong>and</strong> photo­<br />

graphs of the following: Horst Gonnemann (<strong>camp</strong> kapo), inmates<br />

Andreas Canko, Moric Eisikovic, Pakalnis Romualdas, Adam Renefort,<br />

Anton Lorentzen, Hans Baumast, <strong>and</strong> SS Unterscharfuehrer Gustav<br />

Kreindl (a medic at Ebensee), Henryk Sokol (a hospital clerk), Dr. Josef<br />

Sora (<strong>camp</strong> physician at Melk), <strong>and</strong> SS Hauptsturmbannfuehrer, Dr.<br />

Willi Jobst (photograph only).<br />

Ebensee, including sworn statements of prison guards Lothar<br />

Kobilke <strong>and</strong> SS­Oberscharfuehrer Werner Schultz. The latter<br />

includes a h<strong>and</strong>­drawn layout of the execution site of 30 Polish<br />

inmates in Sept. 1942.<br />
