“Medical Case” (U.S.A. v. Karl Br<strong>and</strong>t et al) tried by U.S. Military Tribunal<br />

1 at Nuremberg, November 21, 1946–August 20, 1947. He was sentenced to<br />

death <strong>and</strong> executed in May 1949. (See III.29 for records of this case). Vinzenz<br />

Nohel, described as a “crematory stoker” at Hartheim, was tried in the<br />

Mauthausen Main Camp Case (000­50­5), sentenced to death, <strong>and</strong> execut­<br />

ed on May 27, 1947. (See III.78 for record <strong>and</strong> file.) The Hartheim “Case Not<br />

Tried” file (Boxes 490–491, location: 290/59/29/02) includes general corre­<br />

spondence regarding the location <strong>and</strong> interrogation of suspects <strong>and</strong> witness­<br />

es, the original 3rd U.S. Army Report of Investigation of War Crimes with<br />

witness statements <strong>and</strong> exhibits, a Case Analysis, interrogation reports of sus­<br />

pects, <strong>and</strong> status of case reports. Below is a detailed description of the U.S.<br />

3rd Army Report of Investigation (Volume I):<br />

Report of Investigation of War Crimes (Hartheim), War Crimes Investigating<br />

Team No. 6824, Headquarters, 3rd U.S. Army, July 17, 1945. Signed by Maj.<br />

Charles H. Dameron, Investigator­Examiner, this 13­page report provides a<br />

summary of facts, a list of persons implicated in war crimes, names of known<br />

employees at Hartheim with position in castle <strong>and</strong> last known address, <strong>and</strong><br />

a list of the 40 enclosed exhibits, cited below. Witness statements are main­<br />

ly signed German­language originals accompanied by English translations.<br />
