ETO Case 000­50­5­51, U.S. v. Anton Klein, was tried at Dachau, Germany, dur­<br />

ing the period October 22–24,1947,before a General Military Government Court.<br />

The case concerned one defendant accused of participating in the operations of<br />

Mauthausen Concentration Camp <strong>and</strong> its sub­<strong>camp</strong>s <strong>and</strong> thereby, on the princi­<br />

ple of common design, implicated in mass atrocities <strong>and</strong> other war crimes. The<br />

accused,a German national,was an inmate at Mauthausen <strong>and</strong> sub­<strong>camp</strong> Ebensee<br />

where he was a capo on the unloading detail <strong>and</strong> a block eldest. As approved by<br />

the reviewing authority, Klein was sentenced to death.<br />
