Opposite: Mauthausen was classified as a “Category III” <strong>concentration</strong> <strong>camp</strong> on January 2, 1941, as<br />

ordered by this secret directive from Reinhard Heydrich, Chief of the Reich Security Main Office. The<br />

<strong>camp</strong> was to hold “heavily accused” prisoners <strong>and</strong> “asocial prisoners, . . . those who can hardly be cor­<br />
