While many disasters cannot be avoided, mitigation can break the cycle of destruction, reducing the loss of life and property damage. The bottom line is that hazard mitigation strategies help us build safer, stronger, smarter and more resilient communities, better prepared to withstand future disasters. Funds are available to Parish governments, State agencies and municipalities to help communities implement hazard mitigation strategies both pre- and post-disaster. FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) programs are important funding opportunities and resources. There are two (2) nondisaster grants available on annual funding cycles.
