"He went on, '<strong>The</strong> Messenger <strong>of</strong> God (SAAS) left for Medina accompanied<br />

<strong>by</strong> Aba Bakr. I had wanted to leave with him, but some young Quraysh men<br />

blocked my way. I remained up that night, not lying down, and <strong>the</strong>y commented,<br />

"God has diverted h i from you through his stomach!" But I made no cornplaint,<br />

and <strong>the</strong>y went to sleep. So I left, but some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m caught up with me<br />

after I had gone some way and wanted to take me hack. I told <strong>the</strong>m, "If I were to<br />

give you some ounces <strong>of</strong> gold, would you let me go and be fair to me?" <strong>The</strong>y did<br />

so and I followed <strong>the</strong>m back to Mecca. I told <strong>the</strong>m, "Dig beneath <strong>the</strong> threshold<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> door; that's where <strong>the</strong> ounces <strong>of</strong> gold are. And if you go <strong>of</strong>f to a certain<br />

woman, you can take two sets <strong>of</strong> vestments."<br />

"'So I left and joined <strong>the</strong> Messenger <strong>of</strong> God (SAAS) at Qubx' before be<br />

moved out from <strong>the</strong>re. When he saw me he said, "Well, Aba Y&yq you made a<br />

good deal!" I replied, "0 Messenger <strong>of</strong> God, no one got here to you before me,<br />

so it could only be Gabriel, peace be upon him, who informed you!"'"<br />

<strong>Ibn</strong> Ishiiq stated, "Hamza b. 'Abd al-MutMb, Zayd b. Haritha, Aba Marthad<br />

Kamm b. al-Huwyn and his son Marthad, both <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Gbanawi tribe, allies <strong>of</strong><br />

Hamza; Anasa and Aba Kabsha, freed-men <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Messenger <strong>of</strong> God (SAAS);<br />

all <strong>the</strong>se stayed with Kultbm b. al-Hadm, bro<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Banii CAmr b. 'Awf, at<br />

Qub2. However, it is also said that <strong>the</strong>y stayed with Sa'd b. Khaythama. It is<br />

stated, moreover, that Hamza stayed with As'ad b. Zum. But God knows<br />
