known as Nu'man b. Sinm; Nawfal b. Wbayd All& b. Nadla al-Khazraji.<br />

H~N' b. Niyar Abii Burda al-Balawi, uncle <strong>of</strong> al-Bar%' b. 'Azib.<br />

Hilal b. Umayya al-Wnqifi: he is included with those at Badr in both jahih<br />

collections, in regard to <strong>the</strong> story <strong>of</strong> Ka'b b. Maik. But none <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> authors <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> works on <strong>the</strong> military expeditions include him.<br />

Hilal b. al-Mu'all% al-Khazraji, bro<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> mfi' b. al-Mu'allx.<br />

THE LETTER WA W.<br />

Waqid b. 'Abd All& al-Tamimi, an ally <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Bann [Adi, an Emigrant; Wadi'a<br />

b. 'Amr b. Jarad al-Juhani, mentioned <strong>by</strong> al-Waqidi and <strong>Ibn</strong> 'A'idh; Waraqa h.<br />

Iyas b. 'Amr al-Khazraji, a bro<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> Rabi' b. Iyns; Wahb b. Sa'd b. Aba Sarh,<br />

mentioned <strong>by</strong> Mas% b. Wqba, ibn 'A'idh and al-Waqidi among <strong>the</strong> Bann 'Amir<br />

b. Lu'ayy. But <strong>Ibn</strong> Iskq did not mention him.<br />

THE LETTER YJ'.<br />

Yazid b. al-Akhnas b. Jannb b. Habib b. Jarra al-Sulami. Al-Suhayli stated that<br />

he was present along with his fa<strong>the</strong>r and his son, something unique among <strong>the</strong><br />

Companions. But <strong>Ibn</strong> Ishnq and most <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r authorities do not mention<br />

<strong>the</strong>m. <strong>The</strong>y were, however, present with him at <strong>the</strong> bay'at al-ndwzq4 <strong>the</strong><br />

"Pledge <strong>of</strong> Ridwnn".<br />

Yazid b. al-Hitrith b. Qays al-Khazraji. It was be who was called <strong>Ibn</strong> Fushum,<br />

<strong>the</strong> latter being his mo<strong>the</strong>r. He was martyred at Badr that day; Yazid b. 'Amir b.<br />

Hadida Abii al-Mundhir al-Sulami; Yazid b. al-Mundhir b. Sarh al-Sulami, he<br />

being <strong>the</strong> bro<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> Ma'qil b. al-Mundhir.<br />

74. <strong>The</strong> Pledge <strong>of</strong> Ridwa, or <strong>the</strong> Tree, also mentioned in <strong>the</strong> Qur'a. It refen to <strong>the</strong> pledge<br />

given <strong>by</strong> <strong>the</strong> Companions to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Prophet</strong> (SAAS) during <strong>the</strong> treaty <strong>of</strong> al-Hudaybiyya. See serat<br />

al-Farh; XLVIII, 7.18.
