Ubayy b. Ka'b al-Najjari, leader <strong>of</strong> alQurra'; al-Arqam b. Abii al-Arqam; Abii<br />

al-Arqam CAbd Manaf b. Asad b. 'Abd Allah b. Wmar b. Makhziim<br />

al-Makhziimi; As'ad b. Yazid b. al-Fakih b. Yazid b. Khalda b. 'Amir b.<br />

alLCAjlan.<br />

Aswad b. Zayd b. Tha'laba b. Wbayd b. Gbanm - Miisa b. Wqba gave <strong>the</strong><br />

same. Al-Umawi said, "<strong>The</strong>re is doubt over Sawwad b. Rim b. Thaqaba b.<br />

Wbayd b. 'Adi." Salama b. al-Fad1 stated, quoting <strong>Ibn</strong> Ishnq, that <strong>the</strong> name was<br />

Sawwad b. Zurayq b. Tha'laba. <strong>Ibn</strong> 'A'idh gave it as Sawwad b. Zayd.<br />

Usayr b. CAmr al-An~w Abii Salic, also known as Usayr b. CAmr b. Umayya<br />

b. Lawdhm b. Sali b. Thabit al-Khazraji; Miisa b. Wqba did not mention him.<br />

Anas b. Qatada b. Rabi'a b. Khalid b. al-Harith al-Awsi, also so named <strong>by</strong><br />

Miisa b. 'Uqba, though al-Umawi named him Anis in his biography (<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Prophet</strong> (SAAS)).<br />

I comment that Anas b. Malik was <strong>the</strong> servant <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Messenger <strong>of</strong> God<br />

(SAAS) according to <strong>the</strong> account <strong>of</strong> Wmar b. Shabba al-Numayri. <strong>Muhammad</strong><br />

b. 'Abd Allah al-An$%i related to us, from his fa<strong>the</strong>r, from Thumama b. Anas,<br />

who said, "Anas b. Malik was asked whe<strong>the</strong>r he had been present at Badr, and<br />

that he replied, 'Where would I have been, to be absent from Badr, may you be<br />

mo<strong>the</strong>rless!"'<br />

<strong>Muhammad</strong> b. Sacd stated, "<strong>Muhammad</strong> b. 'Abd All& al-An~ari informed<br />

us, my fa<strong>the</strong>r related to us, from a freed-man <strong>of</strong> Anas b. Mdik, that <strong>the</strong> latter<br />

asked Anas whe<strong>the</strong>r he had been present at Badr. He replied, 'May you be<br />

mo<strong>the</strong>rless, where would I have been, to be absent from Badr?"'<br />

<strong>Muhammad</strong> b. 'Abd Allah al-Ansari stated, "Anas b. Malik went forth to Badr<br />

with <strong>the</strong> Messenger <strong>of</strong> God (SAAS) as a servant in service to him."<br />

Our teacher, <strong>the</strong> sheikh and ha$? Aba al-Hajjaj al-Mizzi stated in his tahdhib,<br />

his educational text, "Thus al-An@ri stated, but none <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> authors <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> works<br />

on <strong>the</strong> military expeditions said this."<br />

Mdik b. al-Najjnr; Anasa al-Habashi, freed-man <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Messenger <strong>of</strong> God<br />

Aws b. Khawli b. 'Abd Allh b. al-Hnrith b. Wbayd b. Malik b. Sam b.<br />

Ghanm b. 'Awf b. al-Khazraj al-Khazraji. Mnsn b. Wqba gave his name as Aws<br />

b. CAbd Allah b. al-Hnrith b. Khawli. Aws b. al-Samit al-Khazraji, bro<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong><br />

Wbada b. al-S%mit; Iyyns b. al-Bukayr b. CAbd Ydil b. Nashib b. Ghayra b. Sa'd<br />

b. Layth b. Bakr, ally <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Banii 'Adi b. Ka'b.
