Trusting", 'Abd Allah b. 'Uthmzn, listed above; Aba Habba b. 'Amr b. Thabit,<br />

one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Bana Tha'laba b. 'Amr b. 'Awf al-Anszri; Aba Hudhayfa b. Wtba b.<br />

Rabi'a was an Emigrant and his given name was said to be Mihsham; Abti<br />

al-Hamra', freed-man <strong>of</strong> al-Haith b. Rifa'a b. 'Afrz'; Aba Khuzayma b. Aws b.<br />

Asram al-Najjm; Aba Sabra, freed-man <strong>of</strong> Abii Ruhm b. 'Abd al-Wzza, an<br />

Emigrant; Abii Sinan b. Mihvan b. Hurthn, bro<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> Wkkssha. With him he<br />

had his son Sinan. He was an Emigrant.<br />

Abii al-Siy~h b. al-Nuem%, said to be Wmayr b. Thzbit b. al-Nu'm%n b.<br />

Umayya b. Imru' al-Qays b. Tha'laba. He returned while on <strong>the</strong> way <strong>the</strong>re and<br />

was killed at <strong>the</strong> battle <strong>of</strong> Khaybar. He came back because <strong>of</strong> a wound he had<br />

from a rock and received a share <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> spoils; AbS 'Arfaja, one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> allies <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Bana J&jaba; Aba Kabsha, freed-man <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Messenger <strong>of</strong> God (SAAS); Abii<br />

DIVISION<br />

<strong>The</strong> total number <strong>of</strong> Muslims who were present at Badr was 314, including <strong>the</strong><br />

Messenger <strong>of</strong> God (SAAS).<br />

As al-Bukhsri stated, "'Amr b. Khalid related to us, quoting Zuhayr, quoting<br />

Aba Ishaq, 'I heard al-Bars' b. 'Azib say, "<strong>The</strong> Companions, God be pleased with<br />

<strong>the</strong>m <strong>of</strong> <strong>Muhammad</strong>, God's peace and blessings be upon hi, who had been present<br />

at Badr, related to me that <strong>the</strong>y were <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> number <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Companions <strong>of</strong><br />

Taliit who crossed <strong>the</strong> river with him - that is 310 and a few more." Al-Bar2<br />

stated, "No, <strong>by</strong> God, no one crossed <strong>the</strong> river with him who was not a believer!"'"<br />

Al-Bukhai <strong>the</strong>n related it through Is~"i1 and Sufyan al-Thawri, from Abii<br />

Ishaq, from al-Ba' in similar terms.<br />

<strong>Ibn</strong> Jarir stated, "This is <strong>the</strong> wncensus <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> early authorities, that <strong>the</strong>y were<br />

310 men, and a few more."<br />

He also stated, "Mabad related to us, quoting Wahb, from Shu'ba, from<br />

Abii Ishaq, from al-Bars'', who said, 'I and <strong>Ibn</strong> Wmar felt outnumbered at <strong>the</strong><br />

battle <strong>of</strong> Badr. <strong>The</strong> Emigrants totalled only appoximately 60, whereas <strong>the</strong><br />

Helpers were some 240."'<br />

This is what is given in this account.<br />

<strong>Ibn</strong> Jarir stated, "<strong>Muhammad</strong> b. Wbayd d-Muhaibi related to me, quoting<br />

Aba Malik d-Jubani, from al-Hajjaj, he being <strong>the</strong> son <strong>of</strong> Amt, from d-Hakam,<br />

from Miqsam, from <strong>Ibn</strong> 'Abbzs, who said, '<strong>The</strong> Emigrants at Badr totalled 70
