Zur%~a. But God knows best. Miisa b. Wqba related that the Messenger of God (SAAS) passed by 'Abd All& b. Ubayy b. Salal while he was there in his house. The Messenger of God (SAAS) came to a stop, expecting to be invited into the house since he was at that time the chief of the Khazraj. But 'Ahd Allah told hi, "Look to those who invited you. Stay with them!" The Messenger of God (SAAS) related this to a number of the an@ and Sa'd h. Wbada commented, apologizing for hi, "Now God has granted you to us, 0 Messenger of God; whereas we had wanted to place a crown on his head and make him king over us." Miisa b. Wqha stated, "The anjar had held a meeting before the Messenger of God (SAAS) left the Banii 'Amr b. 'Awf. They had gathered around his camel arguing over which of them should hold its reins, vying to honour and show their respect for the Messenger of God (SAAS). "Whenever he passed by the home of one of the aqar they would invite him inside, but he would say, 'Leave her alone; she has received a command. I will only stay where God decides.' "When she arrived at the house of Abii Ayytlb she knelt before the door and he dismounted. He entered that house and stayed there until his mosque and its apartments were built." Ibn Ishaq stated, "When the camel of the Messenger of God (SAAS) first knelt he did not dismount and she got up and went a little further, while the Messenger of God left its rein free without his control. She then turned around and came back to where she had knelt and did so there again. She then shook herself, and sank to the ground stretching out fully. The Messenger of God (SAAS) then dismounted. "Abii Amb Khalid b. Zayd then picked up his bags and took them into the house. The Messenger of God (SAAS) stayed there with him. "He asked who owned the drying shed and Mu%dh b. 'Afra' told him, 'It is owned by Sahl and Suhayl, two sons of 'Amr. They are orphans under my care.' 'Then I will buy it from them and have it as a mosque,' said the Messenger of God (SAAS), and later he had it built." The Messenger of God (SAAS) stayed in the home of Abii Ayyiib until he built his mosque and its living quarters; he and the Muslims, both Emigrants and Helpers, participated in its construction. An account of the building of the mosque will be given soon hereafter, if God wills it. Al-Bayhaqi stated in Dala'il (The Signs), quoting from Abii 'Abd Allzh, who stated that the hajifiz Abii al-Hasan (Ali b. 'Amr informed him, quoting Aba 'Ahd All& Muhammad b. Makhlid d-Diiri, quoting Muhammad b. Sulaymzn

Aba Tabs, from Anas, who said, "The Messenger of God (SAAS) came to Medina, and when we entered the anjltr came along with other men and women and said, 'Come to us, 0 Messenger of God.' He replied, 'Leave my camel unimpeded; she has received a command.' "She knelt at the door of Aha Ayyiih and servant girls of the Bana al-Najjxr came out sbiking drums and chanting, 'We are girls of the Banii al-Najjar; how wonderful if Muhammad were our neighhour.' "The Messenger of God (SAAS) then came out to them and asked, 'Do you love me?' They replied, LOh yes, 0 Messenger of God!' 'And I,' he said, 'by God, love you all! By God, I love you all!"' This is a strange tradition from this source. None of the authorities on tradition relate it, though al-H&m gave it in his Mustadrak as will he related. Al-Bayhaqi stated, L'Abii 'Ahd al-RGmm al-Sulami related, quoting Aha al-Q%im (Abd at-Rabm h. Sulayman al-N&h%, the Qur'an-reciter in Baghdad, that Wmar b. al-Hasan al-Halahi related to him, quoting Aha Khaythama al-Ma~isi, and 'isa h. Yiinus related, from 'Awf al-Acrabi, from Thumzma, from Anas, who said, 'The Prophet (SAAS) passed by a quarter where the Banii al-Najjw lived. And there were servant girls striking drums and chanting, "We are girls of the Banii al-Najjar; how wonderful if Muhammad were our neighhour." "'The Messenger of God (SAAS) commented, "God knows that my heart loves you all!"'" This was related by Ihn Mzja, from Hishm h. 'Ammw, from
