course <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> tutelary deity, who is here repre-<br />

sented by a triad composed <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> god Harhat,<br />

(<strong>the</strong> <strong>Egypt</strong>ian Apollo,) <strong>the</strong> goddess Athor, (<strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Egypt</strong>ian Venus,) <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir son Horsont Tho, <strong>the</strong><br />

support <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> world. But do not imagine that<br />

I am ei<strong>the</strong>r going <strong>to</strong> edify or <strong>to</strong> w^eary you with<br />

a detail <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se strange representations—I shall<br />

tioned myself whe<strong>the</strong>r such a view would be<br />

considered beautiful in ano<strong>the</strong>r country, I was<br />

forced <strong>to</strong> admit that its loveliness is only com-<br />

presents an eternal struggle for pre-eminence<br />

prevailed, fertility spreads its green mantle
