<strong>and</strong> habits <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> several tenants <strong>of</strong> tlie <strong>to</strong>mbs<br />

<strong>and</strong> it is curious <strong>to</strong> observe from <strong>the</strong>se okl de-<br />

signs, how few changes <strong>the</strong> lapse <strong>of</strong> more than<br />

three thous<strong>and</strong> years has effected in <strong>the</strong> economy<br />

<strong>of</strong> rural life in <strong>Egypt</strong>. The corn was sown, <strong>and</strong><br />

reaped, <strong>and</strong> trodden out in <strong>the</strong> same manner <strong>the</strong>n<br />

that it now is ; <strong>and</strong> it would appear that <strong>the</strong> an-<br />

This morning, at Esneh, I returned <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

temple <strong>to</strong> look for <strong>the</strong> famous Zodiac, <strong>and</strong> found<br />

it in one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> compartments <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ceiling, quite<br />
