Shamaleyya police stations. At certain points during <strong>the</strong>se attacks, Molotov<br />

cocktails were thrown at <strong>the</strong> police buildings.<br />

541. Incidents <strong>of</strong> arson were also recorded during <strong>the</strong> day. The first,<br />

reported at 10:20, occurred when unidentified individuals entered and set fire<br />

to a farm in Karzakan belonging to <strong>the</strong> Royal Court. Shortly <strong>the</strong>reafter, it was<br />

reported that unidentified vandals had set fire to a wooden warehouse in <strong>the</strong><br />

vicinity <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Al-Naeem cemetery. At around 13:40, ano<strong>the</strong>r fire was<br />

reported in a furniture warehouse in Karzakan.<br />

542. During <strong>the</strong> day, a number <strong>of</strong> civilian fatalities were reported. Some<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se cases were imputable to BDF units, while in o<strong>the</strong>r cases police were<br />

implicated in <strong>the</strong> deaths. Due to <strong>the</strong> lack <strong>of</strong> security that <strong>Bahrain</strong> suffered<br />

during this period, <strong>the</strong> circumstances leading to <strong>the</strong>se deaths remains unclear.<br />

543. At 08:30, Mr Jaafar Mohamed Abdali Salman was pronounced dead<br />

due to a gunshot wound to <strong>the</strong> chest. The exact sequence <strong>of</strong> events causing<br />

this fatality is unclear. Some reports indicated that Mr Salman was shot in <strong>the</strong><br />

vicinity <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Dana Mall, which is adjacent to <strong>the</strong> GCC Roundabout. He had<br />

gone to <strong>the</strong> area to photograph <strong>the</strong> ongoing events. O<strong>the</strong>r reports, however,<br />

claimed that <strong>the</strong> deceased attempted to attack police in <strong>the</strong> area. Persons in<br />

<strong>the</strong> area transported <strong>the</strong> victim to <strong>the</strong> Jidhafs hospital, where he was<br />

pronounced dead. 255<br />

544. Ano<strong>the</strong>r civilian fatality that occurred during <strong>the</strong> day was Mr Ahmed<br />

Abdulla Hassan Ali. According to some reports, Mr Ali died <strong>of</strong> shotgun<br />

wounds that he had sustained at <strong>the</strong> GCC Roundabout. O<strong>the</strong>r accounts,<br />

however, claimed that he was killed in confrontations with police at<br />

Roundabout 7 in Hamad Town. 256<br />

545. Meanwhile, at a BDF checkpoint that was set up near <strong>the</strong> overpass<br />

between <strong>the</strong> Al-Sahla district and Issa Town, ano<strong>the</strong>r incident occurred that<br />

led to <strong>the</strong> death <strong>of</strong> an MoI employee named Mr Jawad Ali Kadhem. Available<br />

information indicates that <strong>the</strong> victim approached <strong>the</strong> BDF checkpoint in his<br />

vehicle, which he refused to stop despite being requested to do so over a<br />

megaphone by <strong>the</strong> military personnel onsite. When his vehicle came within<br />

80 metres <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> BDF armoured vehicle stationed at <strong>the</strong> checkpoint, BDF<br />

personnel fired rounds from a .50 Browning machine gun to disable <strong>the</strong> car. It<br />

later appeared that <strong>the</strong> shots had punctured <strong>the</strong> body <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> vehicle and fatally<br />

injured <strong>the</strong> victim. 257<br />

546. At 18:00, Mr Jaafar Abdulla Ali Hasan Mayo<strong>of</strong> was pronounced dead<br />

due to injuries sustained from gunshot and shotgun wounds. The exact<br />

circumstances <strong>of</strong> this fatality are unclear. According to some reports, <strong>the</strong><br />

victim was injured by police dispersing demonstrations that were taking place<br />

in ei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> Magaba or <strong>the</strong> Al-Hajar districts. O<strong>the</strong>r accounts claimed that Mr<br />

Mayo<strong>of</strong> was at <strong>the</strong> GCC Roundabout during <strong>the</strong> clearing operation, and that<br />

he had been shot but managed to reach <strong>the</strong> vicinity <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sanabis<br />
