Annex B — Summary <strong>of</strong> Torture Allegations<br />

mouth to brea<strong>the</strong>. He was <strong>the</strong>n thrown to <strong>the</strong> floor and dragged to <strong>the</strong> X-ray<br />

room. He was taken to a bathroom to give a urine sample, but before he<br />

finished urinating he was attacked with sharp objects and verbally abused.<br />

He was given a voltaren injection and <strong>the</strong>n taken back to his area <strong>of</strong><br />

detention. Upon realising <strong>the</strong> seriousness <strong>of</strong> his injuries, he was sent to Dry<br />

Dock Detention Centre (<strong>the</strong> temporarily facility).<br />

During his first 21 days <strong>of</strong> detention, <strong>the</strong> detainee was unaware <strong>of</strong> his<br />

location. After arriving at Dry Dock Detention Centre, he remained<br />

blindfolded and handcuffed behind his back and was forced to stand for<br />

three days. He was tortured every hour and his head was shaved. He was<br />

only allowed to use <strong>the</strong> toilet for 15 seconds after meals. He remained in<br />

agony as a result <strong>of</strong> his injuries until one night a high-level <strong>of</strong>ficial saw him<br />

and asked about his back injury. The <strong>of</strong>ficial sent him for a medical checkup<br />

and he was diagnosed with needing medical treatment and physio<strong>the</strong>rapy.<br />

The witness’s condition improved but his chronic back pain and <strong>the</strong><br />

numbness in his left foot and buttocks continued. Several days later, he was<br />

taken to <strong>the</strong> MoI interrogation centre and forced to videotape a confession.<br />

On 31 May, he was moved to a smaller prison cell. He was not allowed to<br />

leave his room except for 15 minutes per day.<br />

On 6 June, <strong>the</strong> detainee was taken in a car to an unknown location. He was<br />

beaten throughout <strong>the</strong> journey. He was placed in <strong>the</strong> hot sun for one hour<br />

and suddenly found himself entering a military court. The session lasted<br />

only five minutes, after which <strong>the</strong> detainee was taken back to <strong>the</strong> detention<br />

facility. The court session was <strong>the</strong> first time in three months that he had<br />

seen his wife. Four months after his initial detention, he was permitted to<br />

place a two-minute call to his family and to visit a psychiatrist for<br />

depression. He was prescribed anti-depressants. He was subsequently<br />

allowed a 20-minute family visit once per week and a five-minute telephone<br />

call once per week. The detainee had five court sessions in total and was<br />

allowed to consult a lawyer only once for a five-minute period.<br />

Statement: At 01:00 on 4 April 2011, approximately 30-40 members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

army and police arrived outside <strong>the</strong> witness’s home. Some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m entered<br />

<strong>the</strong> home and took computers and laptops. They also took his car and o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

belongings. The security forces took <strong>the</strong> detainee to <strong>the</strong> CID where he<br />

stayed until 11 April.<br />

The detainee was not allowed to shower for <strong>the</strong> first 11 days <strong>of</strong> his detention.<br />

He was constantly beaten and was not permitted to contact a lawyer or his<br />

family. At one point he was taken to a medical clinic, blindfolded and<br />

handcuffed. He was <strong>the</strong>n returned to <strong>the</strong> CID where he was interrogated.<br />

He was accused <strong>of</strong> contacting <strong>the</strong> Iranian Ambassador and seeking to<br />
