Annex B — Summary <strong>of</strong> Torture Allegations<br />

Wusta police station, where he was put in an isolated cell. After eight days,<br />

he was transferred to <strong>the</strong> MoI Hospital. While at <strong>the</strong> hospital, a prosecutor<br />

asked him to sign a confession while he was blindfolded. He was <strong>the</strong>n<br />

returned to Al Wusta police station. On 4 August, he went on a hunger<br />

strike.<br />

CASE NO. 50<br />

Date <strong>of</strong> statement: 27 August 2011<br />

Statement: The detainee was arrested in <strong>the</strong> morning <strong>of</strong> 19 April 2011 at his<br />

house in <strong>the</strong> Demistan area. He heard <strong>the</strong> sounds <strong>of</strong> his front door being<br />

broken down and <strong>the</strong>n people in uniform entered his bedroom and pointed<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir rifles at his daughter’s head. They took him to a car where he was<br />

blindfolded and taken to ano<strong>the</strong>r location. While in detention, he was beaten<br />

with fists and a hose and kicked in his abdomen. He was subjected to<br />

physical and psychological abuse. They threatened his wife and daughter<br />

and threatened to put a pen in his anus. These threats continued for 13 days.<br />

His interrogators used drugs to force him to confess. As a result <strong>of</strong> being<br />

beaten with fists he suffered a fracture <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> nasal septum. He had an X-ray<br />

and was scheduled to have an MRI on 11 October 2011.<br />

Date <strong>of</strong> statement: 25 August 2011<br />

Statement: The detainee was arrested on 16 April 2011 while attempting to<br />

leave <strong>the</strong> area near SMC in his car during <strong>the</strong> unrest. As he tried to drive<br />

<strong>of</strong>f, his car accidentally crashed into two police cars and he lost<br />

consciousness for a few moments. When he awoke, police <strong>of</strong>ficers pulled<br />

him out <strong>of</strong> his car through <strong>the</strong> window. They blindfolded him, tied his hands<br />

behind his back and beat him with slaps and punched <strong>the</strong> following areas <strong>of</strong><br />

his body: front and back <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> head; front and back <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> body and trunk<br />

(especially chest and abdomen); sides <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> body; and eardrums (telefona).<br />

He was transferred to Al Naim police station for one and a half hours. He<br />

was <strong>the</strong>n referred to Al Qoudaybia police station where <strong>the</strong> beatings<br />

continued. They forced him to bend over while <strong>the</strong>y touched his anal and<br />

genital area from <strong>the</strong> back. They also beat his hands using a hose and<br />

applied electric shocks to his body. They forced him to sign a confession<br />

stating that he had tried to kill <strong>the</strong> policemen located in <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r car. After<br />

two or three weeks, he was referred to a military court where he was<br />

sentenced and <strong>the</strong>n transferred to prison.<br />
