Ahmed brea<strong>the</strong>, but at each checkpoint <strong>the</strong> ambulance was stopped and <strong>the</strong><br />

paramedic was questioned. The relative was also harassed at <strong>the</strong> front door <strong>of</strong><br />

SMC, and <strong>the</strong> deceased was pronounced dead shortly after.<br />

Case No. 37 - Salman Isa Abuidrees 538<br />

1052. At 01:32 on 3 June 2011, Salman Isa Abuidrees was pronounced<br />

dead. The death certificate states that <strong>the</strong> cause <strong>of</strong> death was a heart attack<br />

caused by heightened blood pressure. The certificate also states that <strong>the</strong><br />

deceased suffered from diabetes.<br />

1053. The <strong>Commission</strong> received information that <strong>the</strong> deceased and ano<strong>the</strong>r<br />

person were driving to his sister’s house in Salmaniya when police stopped<br />

<strong>the</strong>m in Gufool on 13 March 2011. He was driving his Caprice (1998 model),<br />

on <strong>the</strong> mirror <strong>of</strong> which was a photo <strong>of</strong> Hassan Nasrallah. When <strong>the</strong> police<br />

stopped <strong>the</strong>m, <strong>the</strong>y dragged <strong>the</strong> deceased out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> car and were enraged<br />

when <strong>the</strong>y saw <strong>the</strong> photo. They threw him on <strong>the</strong> floor and beat him before<br />

taking him to an unknown location. Later, <strong>the</strong> deceased’s relative received a<br />

call from a nurse at Al Naim Hospital who knew <strong>the</strong> family and informed<br />

<strong>the</strong>m that <strong>the</strong> deceased was in hospital. Ano<strong>the</strong>r relative spoke to <strong>the</strong><br />

deceased, who told him that police had destroyed his car and stolen his wallet,<br />

which contained BD 500. The deceased was <strong>the</strong>n transferred to SMC. The<br />

following day, a relative came to see him and noticed that his injuries had not<br />

been treated. The deceased’s relative tried to have <strong>the</strong> deceased discharged<br />

from <strong>the</strong> hospital but was not permitted to do so. After a period <strong>of</strong> time [it is<br />

not clear how long], <strong>the</strong> deceased’s family was informed that he was<br />

undergoing surgery to treat his wounds. Following <strong>the</strong> surgery, he was<br />

transferred to intensive care. The deceased’s relative heard <strong>of</strong> his death via<br />

email and <strong>the</strong>n visited <strong>the</strong> SMC morgue on 3 June 2011 and was told that he<br />

had passed away. The deceased’s relative stated that he was in poor health<br />

before being attacked by <strong>the</strong> police.<br />

Case No. 38 - Alsayed Adnan Alsayed Hasan Almusawi<br />

1054. On 23 June 2011, Alsayed Adnan Alsayed Hasan was pronounced<br />

dead.<br />

1055. The <strong>Commission</strong> received information indicating that <strong>the</strong> deceased’s<br />

death may have been caused by suffocation following tear gas inhalation in<br />

Duraz.<br />

Case No. 39 - Zainab Hasan Ahmed Jumaa<br />

1056. At 18:30 on 15 July 2011, Zainab Hasan Ahmed Jumaa was<br />

pronounced dead. The death certificate does not identify a cause <strong>of</strong> death.<br />

Medical documents cite cardio-pulmonary arrest as <strong>the</strong> cause <strong>of</strong> death.<br />

1057. A forensic report did not indicate any external injuries or signs <strong>of</strong> tear<br />

gas inhalation.<br />

1058. The <strong>Commission</strong> received information that at around 17:45 on 15<br />

July 2011, <strong>the</strong>re were confrontations in Sitra between security forces and<br />

538 One statement provided to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Commission</strong>.<br />
