stop beating him. The detainee was taken to ano<strong>the</strong>r cell where he was<br />

beaten on his thighs and insulted and told that <strong>the</strong>y would rape his sister. On<br />

<strong>the</strong> morning <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> second day, a <strong>Bahrain</strong>i approached him carrying a black<br />

hose and beat him on his hands and feet. Two Syrians continued beating<br />

him on his body, and <strong>the</strong> <strong>Bahrain</strong>i <strong>the</strong>n returned with <strong>the</strong> hose and beat him<br />

in <strong>the</strong> face, breaking three teeth. The detainee was also electrocuted but it is<br />

not clear by whom. Although <strong>the</strong> detainee was vomiting, his beatings<br />

continued. He was told to urinate in a jar but was unable to do so.<br />

He was <strong>the</strong>n transferred to <strong>the</strong> MoI Hospital and blindfolded and beaten on<br />

<strong>the</strong> way. X-rays <strong>of</strong> his body were taken and he was subsequently transferred<br />

to <strong>the</strong> BDF Hospital where he was placed on a saline drip. At <strong>the</strong> hospital,<br />

he was interrogated by persons who accused him <strong>of</strong> participating in<br />

temporary marriage and <strong>of</strong> participating in protests at <strong>the</strong> roundabout. They<br />

also asked him for details about his sisters and beat him with a hose. At <strong>the</strong><br />

BDF Hospital, he was put on dialysis for his kidneys and after four days he<br />

was taken back to <strong>the</strong> Riffa police station, at which point <strong>the</strong> torture stopped.<br />

After three days he was transferred to Dry Dock Detention Centre for two<br />

and a half months, and <strong>the</strong>n back to <strong>the</strong> police station for two weeks. When<br />

his condition worsened, he would be taken back to <strong>the</strong> BDF Hospital for<br />

dialysis.<br />

Statement: On 15 March 2011, <strong>the</strong> detainee was demonstrating in Sitra<br />

when riot police attacked <strong>the</strong> demonstration and injured five persons<br />

including <strong>the</strong> detainee. The injured persons were taken away by ambulance<br />

but <strong>the</strong> police stopped <strong>the</strong> vehicle on <strong>the</strong> way to hospital. Due to <strong>the</strong> nature<br />

<strong>of</strong> his injury, which was in <strong>the</strong> thigh area, <strong>the</strong> detainee could not stand and<br />

was lying down in <strong>the</strong> ambulance. The police instructed <strong>the</strong> medical staff<br />

and injured persons to leave <strong>the</strong> vehicle. They shot <strong>the</strong> tyres with birdshot<br />

pellets and hit <strong>the</strong> driver on his neck with a gun. The female doctor was<br />

threatened with rape but left alone after police <strong>of</strong>ficers discovered that she<br />

was Sunni. The detainee lay in <strong>the</strong> ambulance pretending to be unconscious<br />

and was left alone. Afterwards, he was taken to SMC where X-rays revealed<br />

no broken bones. Riot police and <strong>the</strong> army took over SMC on 17 March.<br />

The detainee was taken out <strong>of</strong> his hospital room (in Ward 4), thrown on <strong>the</strong><br />

floor, beaten and forced to make animal sounds. On 20 March, he asked to<br />

be discharged. On his way out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ward, he passed a checkpoint and was<br />

asked about his injury. He informed <strong>the</strong>m it was bird pellets and he was<br />

<strong>the</strong>n beaten for four hours by <strong>the</strong> Saudi military.<br />

The detainee was taken to Al Naim Police Station and beaten on <strong>the</strong> way.<br />

He was transferred to <strong>the</strong> Central Police Station and <strong>the</strong>n to <strong>the</strong> BDF<br />

Hospital where he was interrogated and threatened. He informed an <strong>of</strong>ficer<br />

<strong>of</strong> his treatment but <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficer said that <strong>the</strong>re was nothing he could do about<br />
