Chapter VI — Allegations <strong>of</strong> Human Rights Violations Against <strong>the</strong> Person<br />

937. The <strong>Commission</strong> received information that Mr Salman left his home<br />

at approximately 06:00 on 16 March 2011. He was going to <strong>the</strong> GCC<br />

Roundabout to take photographs. He was near <strong>the</strong> Dana Mall when he was<br />

shot on <strong>the</strong> left side <strong>of</strong> his body. People in <strong>the</strong> vicinity took him to Jidhafs<br />

Hospital and <strong>the</strong>n to <strong>the</strong> International Hospital. The family <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> deceased<br />

learned about his death through media sources. Witnesses stated that <strong>the</strong>y did<br />

not see <strong>the</strong> deceased being shot but that <strong>the</strong>y saw him repeatedly trying to<br />

walk and falling down.<br />

938. The MoI conducted an investigation into this case. The investigation<br />

concluded that <strong>the</strong> deceased was among <strong>the</strong> protesters at <strong>the</strong> GCC Roundabout<br />

and that he tried to attack police <strong>of</strong>ficers using a sword.<br />

939. The <strong>Commission</strong> is able to establish that Mr Salman was shot by<br />

police <strong>of</strong>ficers. However, <strong>the</strong> available evidence it is not sufficient to<br />

conclude that <strong>the</strong> death resulted from an excessive use <strong>of</strong> force.<br />

Case No. 10 - Jaafar Abdulla Ali Hasan Mayo<strong>of</strong><br />

940. At 18:06 on 16 March 2011, Jaafar Abdulla Ali Hasan Mayo<strong>of</strong> was<br />

pronounced dead. The death certificate states that <strong>the</strong> cause <strong>of</strong> death was a<br />

gunshot injury to <strong>the</strong> back and chest area, which caused multiple rib fractures<br />

and damage to vital organs.<br />

941. A forensic report confirmed <strong>the</strong> cause <strong>of</strong> death and concluded that<br />

<strong>the</strong>re may have been more than one bullet and that <strong>the</strong> gunshot to <strong>the</strong><br />

deceased’s back was fired from a distance <strong>of</strong> approximately one metre. The<br />

deceased was also shot with shotgun pellets in <strong>the</strong> thigh; this shot could have<br />

been fired from a distance greater than one metre.<br />

942. The <strong>Commission</strong> received information that on 16 March 2011 <strong>the</strong><br />

deceased was at <strong>the</strong> GCC Roundabout where he was shot with birdshot by<br />

security forces. The deceased allegedly escaped to an area between Sanabis<br />

and Daih, where he stopped to rest. The security forces <strong>the</strong>n shot him in <strong>the</strong><br />

back. He was transported to a number <strong>of</strong> hospitals before being taken to Ibn<br />

Nafees, where he died. The following day <strong>the</strong> deceased’s family collected his<br />

body from SMC.<br />

943. The MoI conducted an investigation into this case. The investigation<br />

is ongoing but found that <strong>the</strong>re were no reports <strong>of</strong> clashes in Magabah on 16<br />

March 2011.<br />

944. The <strong>Commission</strong> is able to establish that Mr Mayo<strong>of</strong> was shot by<br />

security forces. However, <strong>the</strong> available evidence it is not sufficient to<br />

conclude that <strong>the</strong> death resulted from an excessive use <strong>of</strong> force.<br />

Case No. 11 - Hani Abdulaziz Abdulla Jumaa<br />

945. At 23:15 on 19 March 2011, Mr Hani Abdulaziz Abdulla Jumaa was<br />

pronounced dead. The death certificate states that <strong>the</strong> cause <strong>of</strong> death was<br />

gunshot injuries to <strong>the</strong> right leg, left leg and left arm.<br />

946. A forensic report confirmed <strong>the</strong> cause <strong>of</strong> death and concluded that <strong>the</strong><br />

wounds were caused by three or more shots at a distance <strong>of</strong> no more than one<br />
