Annex B — Summary <strong>of</strong> Torture Allegations<br />

On 13 April, he was taken to Dry Dock Detention Centre where he still was<br />

not permitted to contact his family or a lawyer. He was <strong>the</strong>n taken with <strong>the</strong><br />

o<strong>the</strong>r doctors in detention to a location underground in <strong>the</strong> centre <strong>of</strong> <strong>Bahrain</strong><br />

where <strong>the</strong>y remained for three days and two nights. The doctors were<br />

questioned about <strong>the</strong>ir ties to Iran and shown photographs <strong>of</strong> individuals<br />

with alleged ties to Iran.<br />

The doctors’ first court session was on 6 June and this is where <strong>the</strong> detainee<br />

saw his lawyer and family for <strong>the</strong> first time since his arrest. They were<br />

subjected to physical and verbal abuse on <strong>the</strong>ir way to court. The detainee<br />

has since seen a psychiatrist because <strong>of</strong> severe depression and his health has<br />

deteriorated.<br />

Date <strong>of</strong> statement: 21 August 2011<br />

Statement: Approximately 30 masked and armed men arrested <strong>the</strong> detainee<br />

on 20 March 2011. They did not have an arrest warrant. He was<br />

blindfolded and handcuffed in a brutal manner and placed in a vehicle where<br />

he was threatened. He was taken to an unknown location where he was<br />

forced to stand for eight hours. He informed his interrogators that he<br />

suffered from certain ailments, including migraines and sickle cell anaemia,<br />

but this did not make any difference to his treatment. That day he was<br />

interrogated until 02:00.<br />

He was allowed to call his family for <strong>the</strong> first time after 10 days <strong>of</strong><br />

detention. His family had known nothing <strong>of</strong> his fate prior to this telephone<br />

call. He was <strong>the</strong>n transferred to criminal investigation prosecutors who<br />

interrogated him fur<strong>the</strong>r. He was beaten with fists and cables on <strong>the</strong> back,<br />

shoulder joints and renal bed.<br />

The detainee was transferred to Dry Dock Detention Centre where he was<br />

placed in solitary confinement for one week. During this period, he was<br />

handcuffed and forced to stand for long periods. No lawyers were present<br />

during his interrogations and he was not permitted to reply to his<br />

accusations. He was routinely insulted and informed that his wife and son<br />

would be raped. He was <strong>the</strong>n transferred to a special interrogation centre<br />

where he was whipped severely. Since being in detention, he has not<br />

received any medical care for his illnesses.<br />

Statement: At around 02:00 on 23 March 2011, <strong>the</strong> detainee was arrested at<br />

a friend’s home in Jazeerat Sutra. There were approximately 30 police<br />
