Annex B — Summary <strong>of</strong> Torture Allegations<br />

CASE NO. 19<br />

(Examined by forensic team)<br />

Date <strong>of</strong> statement: 2 August 2011<br />

Statement: The detainee was arrested on 19 April 2011. His home was<br />

ransacked and items stolen during <strong>the</strong> arrest. Some members <strong>of</strong> his family<br />

were beaten and all were verbally insulted. Beatings involved hitting with<br />

fists, kicking on <strong>the</strong> back <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> body and beating with hoses on <strong>the</strong> ears and<br />

hands. After his arrest, security forces made <strong>the</strong> detainee undress and<br />

pushed a hose towards his anus until he confessed and signed a confession.<br />

He was taken to Asri prison / detention centre where he was beaten, tortured<br />

and hung. During <strong>the</strong> first three days, he was stripped <strong>of</strong> his clo<strong>the</strong>s and<br />

sexually assaulted, in addition to being deprived <strong>of</strong> sleep. He was placed in<br />

a cell with 32 o<strong>the</strong>r detainees. He was routinely beaten and insulted by <strong>the</strong><br />

prison guards, all <strong>of</strong> whom were <strong>of</strong> Pakistani origin. He was interrogated on<br />

a number <strong>of</strong> occasions. He was also beaten and verbally assaulted at <strong>the</strong><br />

military court.<br />

Since his arrest, he has not been allowed sufficient contact with his family,<br />

contact with a lawyer or access to medical care. The first call he placed to<br />

his family was after two and a half months <strong>of</strong> detention, during which time<br />

<strong>the</strong>y did not know <strong>of</strong> his location. He has suffered a dislocated shoulder and<br />

a fracture in his right foot.<br />

CASE NO. 20<br />

Date <strong>of</strong> statement: 9 August 2011<br />

Statement: On 7 April 2011, <strong>the</strong> detainee was arrested at his home in a<br />

violent manner, with <strong>the</strong> aluminum door to his home broken. He was taken<br />

to <strong>the</strong> CID where he was interrogated by police <strong>of</strong>ficers. He was<br />

subsequently transferred to Asri prison / detention centre and tortured<br />

violently. He was <strong>the</strong>n taken to Dry Dock Detention Centre where he was<br />

videotaped and told to confess to certain crimes. Throughout this process,<br />

his sect and religious practices were insulted. He has been charged with<br />

cutting <strong>of</strong>f <strong>the</strong> tongue <strong>of</strong> an Asian migrant.<br />
