Annex B — Summary <strong>of</strong> Torture Allegations<br />

They told him that if he did not confess <strong>the</strong>re would be serious<br />

consequences.<br />

They took <strong>the</strong> detainee to <strong>the</strong> CID where he was physically abused. He was<br />

beaten in <strong>the</strong> following areas <strong>of</strong> his body: front and back <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> head; front<br />

and back <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> body (especially <strong>the</strong> chest and abdomen); and side <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

body. He was also kicked in <strong>the</strong> buttocks and hit forcefully around <strong>the</strong> ears<br />

(telefono), and his feet were beaten with a hose. He was also<br />

psychologically abused through <strong>the</strong> following methods: humiliation <strong>of</strong> his<br />

religious beliefs; threats to himself and his family, including threats <strong>of</strong><br />

sexual abuse; denial <strong>of</strong> access to <strong>the</strong> toilet; and unhygienic conditions in his<br />

cell.<br />

After approximately 13 hours in detention, <strong>the</strong> interrogations commenced.<br />

The interrogators alleged that <strong>the</strong> detainee was attempting to overthrow <strong>the</strong><br />

King and cabinet. It was alleged that he had conspired with o<strong>the</strong>r arrested<br />

physicians. His interrogators forced him to sign a confession without<br />

allowing him to see its contents. After eight days he was sent to <strong>the</strong> Military<br />

Prosecution to confess to <strong>the</strong>se charges. He was told that if he did not<br />

confess he would be subjected to electrocution. He was allowed to have a<br />

family visit after eight days. After thirteen days, his handcuffs and blindfold<br />

were removed, and <strong>the</strong> conditions <strong>of</strong> his detention started to improve. He is<br />

still hearing noises and experiencing numbness in both feet as well as in his<br />

left hand.<br />

Date <strong>of</strong> statement: 28 August 2011<br />

Statement: The detainee was arrested at his house on 27 March 2011. A<br />

group <strong>of</strong> special forces soldiers entered his house and pointed <strong>the</strong>ir weapons<br />

at him in front <strong>of</strong> his wife and seven-year-old son. They took him out <strong>of</strong> his<br />

bedroom, blindfolded him and tied his hands behind his back with plastic<br />

handcuffs. They took him bare footed and without his eye glasses to Al-<br />

Qalaa, where he was beaten with fists, kicked and slapped in <strong>the</strong> face.<br />

After one day he was transferred to Al Qurain Prison where a number <strong>of</strong><br />

hooded persons beat him and psychologically abused him. He was beaten<br />

with fists, slapped in <strong>the</strong> face, hit around <strong>the</strong> ears (telefono) and kicked. He<br />

was beaten in <strong>the</strong> front and back <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> head and <strong>the</strong> front and back <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

body (especially <strong>the</strong> chest and abdomen).<br />
