The climax of the jingoism was the Nafeking
celebration which lasted for three nights and two days
from 18th to 20th May. The celebrations followed a
similar pattern all over the country and (von the
smallest towns took part. A typical event was a
procession, - often a torchlight procession wan
arranged by the local authorities. But much of the
rejoicing was spontaneous, with music hallo providing
a focus of entertainment with special

recitations. Everywhere there were busts of baden
Powell and often effigies of Kruger werd burnt. Tableaux
