Most <strong>of</strong> the opposition to the war come from radical and<br />

<strong>of</strong>ten working class Liberals. The Liberal Associations in<br />

the mainly working clans districts <strong>of</strong> Lihitochapel and<br />

Tower Hamlets condemned the warf<br />

Keighley Radical<br />

Club, after a two night debate in September passed a<br />

resolution by a large majority asking that "not a single<br />

life may be lost, nor a shilling <strong>of</strong> public money be spent<br />

in defonding the pecuniary interests <strong>of</strong> European <strong>of</strong>ficials<br />

or Bondholders, but that the troops may be withdrawn at the<br />

earliest possible moment consistent with public safety,<br />

und that in future the people <strong>of</strong> Egypt may be left to make<br />

their own lawn' choose their own rulers and vote their<br />

own budgets. "<br />

temporary occupation, it woo couched in stronger terms<br />

than other Liberal resolutions, In July a protest against<br />

the war was signed by "more than six hundred representative<br />
