Conoervative Clubs received a steady blast <strong>of</strong><br />

Imperialist propaganda. Lantern slide lectures wore<br />

a feature <strong>of</strong> the clubs on such topics as "The British<br />

Navy" and "Our Colonial Empire",<br />

South Africa Association frequently sent round lecturers.<br />

In 1899 lecturer on the Transvaal were usual and <strong>of</strong>ten<br />

raised the audience to excesses <strong>of</strong> patriotiom; at<br />

Farnham Working HTen'a Consorvative Club in Läncanhiro,<br />

after a talk on-South Africa, a Hajor Cr<strong>of</strong>ton tang<br />

verses <strong>of</strong> "Soldiers <strong>of</strong> the queen" the chorus <strong>of</strong> which<br />

was taken up with Great enthusiasm.<br />

annual meeting in October, equated freedom for the<br />

Uitlandern with freedom for the non-Unionint in Britain.<br />

In Liverpool a British Workers South African Union had<br />
