In 1890 they cent Lugard to Uganda as the leader<br />

<strong>of</strong> an expedition which quickly became involved in a three<br />

cornered struggle between the British Church flicsionury<br />

party. Not surprisingly the Protestant miocionarioe<br />

emerged as the dominant group.<br />

But the expansion from the coast to Uganda put<br />

too xroat a strain on the resources <strong>of</strong> the Company which<br />

was rapidly running out <strong>of</strong> funds and wau forced to contemplate<br />
