avoid a serious split. Modoratoe and pro-livers could<br />

unite behind the demand for a fair settlement,<br />

But the anti-war movement had made only a alight<br />

izp<strong>ac</strong>t. It was note worthy that almost half the<br />

exponditure <strong>of</strong> the S. T. %I, C, in 1900 convicted <strong>of</strong> printing<br />

and advertising, and another large slice for postage.<br />

The bulk <strong>of</strong> the work done wua by doitributing literature<br />

printing pamphlets and leaflets - three and a half<br />

million peicoc <strong>of</strong> literature had been diotributeä<br />

altogether. But more positive <strong>ac</strong>tivity in the, form <strong>of</strong><br />

nootinga was lareoly l<strong>ac</strong>king; and much <strong>of</strong> the, propu unda<br />

may have fallen on deaf aara.<br />
