analyse the economic situation in the Transvaal or the<br />

importance <strong>of</strong> the Cold mines<br />

and labour renolutiona) , or deal with the suzerainty<br />

aspect <strong>of</strong> the whole affair. They were thus in one sense<br />

missing the point, since the issue was not just a franchise<br />

triovance but concerned the future <strong>of</strong> South Africa and<br />

indirectly that <strong>of</strong> the British 1rrpire. The resolutions<br />
