agitation in Stepney and Z. W. Dethnal Green* and the<br />

hostility <strong>of</strong> the costermaongers in Shoreditch Aoxton<br />

to the'rogulationa imposed by the L. C. C. The<br />

Liberals gained V. Camberwell and Shoreditch Uaggermton<br />

won by W. Cromer the pe<strong>ac</strong>e advocate. The Liberal<br />

position in London which was extremely precarious with<br />

only eight seats, was at least not much worsened.<br />

In Lancashire there were our Conservative gains,<br />

Burnley, Southport, Oldba t and I&tddleton,. and two<br />

Liberal gains, - Lancaster and Radcliffe. The Liberal<br />

decline in Lancashire was thus continued. In Yorkshire<br />

two Liberal gains cancelled out two Conservative gains.<br />

In the South-wust the Conservatives gained two seats and<br />

Liberals three, in Cumberland and Westmoreland the<br />

Conoervativon gained two and the Liberale one.<br />

The maintenance <strong>of</strong> the Lib : ral position <strong>of</strong> courco<br />

r<strong>ac</strong>ked a genoral reduction in najorition though over<br />

two million voters voted Liberal or trationalict ngatuct<br />
