islands <strong>of</strong> the Japan Archipelago, are the hairiest<br />

men in the world. With negroes the beard<br />

is scanty or wanting, and they rarely have<br />

whiskers; in both sexes the body is frequently<br />

almost destitute <strong>of</strong> fine down. (16. On the<br />
