A comb<strong>in</strong>ation of the f<strong>in</strong>e-gra<strong>in</strong>ed solid material rema<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g after the recoverable metals and<br />
m<strong>in</strong>erals have been extracted from crushed and ground m<strong>in</strong>ed ore, and any process water<br />
rema<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g.<br />

The delta that forms on discharge of a flowable slurry.<br />
Tail<strong>in</strong>gs conta<strong>in</strong>ment<br />
Usually constructed <strong>in</strong>itially as an earthen starter embankment, with wall raises<br />
constructed us<strong>in</strong>g borrow material and/or tail<strong>in</strong>gs. Construction may be downstream us<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Tail<strong>in</strong>gs slurry<br />
Tail<strong>in</strong>gs solids embedded <strong>in</strong> process water that are produced <strong>in</strong> the process<strong>in</strong>g plant<br />
at a low density, which beach at a flat slope, segregate down the beach, and produce<br />
considerable supernatant water.<br />
Tail<strong>in</strong>gs s<strong>to</strong>rage facility<br />
An area used <strong>to</strong> conta<strong>in</strong> tail<strong>in</strong>gs; its prime function is <strong>to</strong> achieve solids sedimentation,<br />
consolidation and desiccation, and <strong>to</strong> facilitate water recovery or removal without<br />
impact<strong>in</strong>g the environment. It refers <strong>to</strong> the overall facility, and may <strong>in</strong>clude one or more<br />
tail<strong>in</strong>gs s<strong>to</strong>rages.<br />
Temporary closure (care and ma<strong>in</strong>tenance)<br />
Phase follow<strong>in</strong>g temporary cessation of operations when <strong>in</strong>frastructure rema<strong>in</strong>s <strong>in</strong>tact and<br />
the site cont<strong>in</strong>ues <strong>to</strong> be managed.<br />
Tenement<br />
Some form of legal <strong>in</strong>strument provid<strong>in</strong>g access <strong>to</strong> land for the purposes of m<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g.<br />
Thickened tail<strong>in</strong>gs<br />
Tail<strong>in</strong>gs thickened <strong>to</strong> a high density, which beach at a steeper slope and segregate less than<br />
tail<strong>in</strong>gs slurry, produc<strong>in</strong>g far less supernatant water.<br />
