W. Steer: Die Mischung aus bekannten
Musical-Klassikern und neuen Produktionen
macht ja unser Profil aus.
LiM: Mittlerweile produzieren Sie auch
selbst, kooperieren mit anderen Theatern
und zeigen Stücke, die in München
noch nicht zu sehen waren…
C. Bayer: … wie nächstes Jahr das Musical
„Der Schuh des Manitu“. Das feiert
Heimkehr in die Stadt seines Erfinders
Bully Herbig.
LiM: Das klingt nach einem 24-Stunden-Tag.
Wie schaffen Sie das alles?
W. Steer: Wir halten es mit Karl Valentin,
(* Info unten) der früher auch im Deutschen
Theater aufgetreten ist: „Kunst ist
schön, macht aber viel Arbeit.“
LiM: Was ist Ihre Doppelspitze für Sie:
Beruf, Berufung oder Mission?
C. Bayer: Eine schöne Frage, die sich
aber eigentlich von selbst beantwortet.
Wir sind einfach doppelt spitze…
W. Steer: … und oft in geheimer Mission
unterwegs.
LiM: Auf Ihrem Spielplan stehen auch
Kinder- und Jugendmusicals. Ist es leicht
oder eher schwer, die junge Generation
fürs Theater zu begeistern?
C. Bayer: Kinder und Jugendliche sind
unserem Theater sehr zugewandt, da
Musical ein sehr guter leichtfüßiger Einstieg
in die Kultur ist.
LiM: Die Spielzeit 2019 haben Sie mit
dem Publikums-Klassiker „Cabaret“
eröffnet – und das erstmals im englischen
Original! Wie kam das an?
W. Steer: Die Reaktionen darauf waren
euphorisch!

W. Steer: Our profile is made up of a mixture of
well-known musical classics and new productions.
LiM: In the meantime, you also produce yourself,
work with other theatres and show plays
which have never been shown in Munich before...
C. Bayer:... like the musical “Manitou’s Shoe”
next year. It’s celebrating its homecoming to
the city of its creator, Bully Herbig.
LiM: That sounds like a 24-hour day. How do
you manage it all?
W. Steer: We consider it like Karl Valentin (*info
below) who also used to perform at the Deutsches
Theater: “Art is beautiful, but it’s a lot of
work.”
LiM: How do you view your joint directorship?
Career, vocation or mission?
C. Bayer: A nice question, but one which actually
answers itself. Two heads are better than
one...
W. Steer: ... and we’re often away on a secret
mission.
LiM: There are also children’s and young people’s
musicals on your programme. Is it easy or
rather difficult to get the younger generation
excited about the theatre?
C. Bayer: Children and young people are very
attracted by our theatre because musicals are
a really good and accessible gateway to culture.
LiM: You opened 2019’s programme with the
hit “Cabaret”, and in the original English for the
