SPOTLIGHT ON TAIWAN Region Spotlight on 3 Leading Companies on by the Cross-Strait Agreement on Trade in Services, TAITRA provided consultation services to aid companies in expanding their international markets. Meanwhile the “Service Industry Business Opportunity Exchange” was organised to focus exclusively on helping to generate international business for the service industries. For the event, over 170 buyers were invited to Taiwan. They met with Taiwanese companies in more than 1,000 meeting sessions to discuss strategic cooperation plans. In accordance with the government’s plans, TAITRA helped to establish 5 "International Health Liaison Centers" at all the main airports of Taiwan, including the Taipei Songshan Airport, Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, Taichung International Airport, and Kaohsiung International Airport. The centres provided medical care and consultation to international travellers and helped to raise the image of Taiwan’s high quality health services. In 2013, there were over 200,000 visits to Taiwan for medical services, a significant increase compared to 2012. Faced with mounting global competition, in 2014, TAITRA continues to expand its global reach by establishing new overseas branches, exploring new markets, and implementing service innovation. Meanwhile, TAITRA will continue the strategy of equal focus on the emerging, Mainland China, and developed markets. TPV TPV Technology Limited is the world’s largest PC monitor and fourth largest LCD TV manufacturer. The Group has been able to drive its growth over the years by leveraging its economies of scale and core competencies in R&D, manufacturing, logistic efficiency and superb quality. The Group also distributes its products globally under its own brands AOC and Envision. In 2009 and 2011, the Group acquired exclusive licenses to sell Philips’ monitors globally and TVs in China. In April 2012, the Group formed a joint venture – TP Vision – with Philips to take over the latter’s TV business. The JV engages in the design, manufacturing, distribution, marketing and sales of Philips’ televisions worldwide, with the exception of China, India, United States, Canada, Mexico, and certain countries in South America. The JV is 70% owned by TPV and 30% by Philips. » HALL 22 / STAND 101 Miss IFA presents Philips Smart TV powered by Android. Hon Hai Precision Industry Taiwan’s Foxconn Technology Group, otherwise known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd., continues to be the world’s largest electronics contract manufacturer, and is the third largest IT company in revenue terms. Foxconn’s clients include Apple, Amazon and Sony, and the company has also by the same token been investing offshore, for example it is now a major partner in Sharp’s Sakai LCD fab on Japan’s coast near Osaka. ACER PC manufacturer Acer has been fighting back in the first two quarters of 2014 after a big dip in operating income in 2013. Several bright spots have come to bring morale back to the company’s troops this year, including the news in July that Acer was number one projector vendor in Germany, with 26% market share according to PMA research. The company made a splash in May when it debuted the Acer Liquid Leap at Computex as its first wearable device. The touch-screen smartband with fitness tracking, phone and SMS notification, and music control will be sold together with the Acer Liquid Jade smartphone in selected markets. » HALL 12 / STAND 101 40

HOSPITALITY / RESTAURANTS / BARS WHERE TO GOIN BERLIN WWW.WHERETOGOINBERLIN.COM CLUBS / EVENTS / SHOPPING / CULTURE Burkhard Kieker, CEO of shares his passion for the German capital For someone going to IFA Berlin, what are the reasons other than the show itself to visit the city? We put the question to a man in the know, Burkhard Kieker – CEO of… Twenty five years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Berlin is a vibrant metropolis with many attractions - Television Tower, Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, Checkpoint Charlie, Unter den Linden are a must-see for every visitor. Besides, the city surprises with lots of greenery in the numerous parks and gardens. Our visitors can best experience all of this on a boat trip on the river Spree or a city tour by bus or bike. To discover Berlin as a shopping town, I recommend the open Sunday on September 9, for instance at the Kurfürstendamm or at the new concept mall Bikini Berlin. For me, this is a real hotspot in the urban jungle: at the front, lively big-city life around the Memorial Church and at the back, direct views into the Zoo from the open-terrace of the mall. And don’t forget to take a walk in the charming and green neighbourhoods, the so-called ‘Kieze’ of Berlin! With the 25 th anniversary of the Fall of the Wall, there are many ways to discover its dark history. How important is it not to miss this and what should people see? Due to the powerful idea of freedom, the Wall was opened 25 years ago on November 9. That was a big bang for today’s Berlin that has become a cosmopolitan, creative and thrilling city. A must-see during the Fall of the Wall anniversary from November 7-9 will be the spectacular setup of more than 8000 illuminated balloons across 15 kilometres between Bornholmer Strasse and Oberbaumbrücke. The balloons will show the former course of the border. This will be a very emotional experience. For more information, go to our website, If you want to see where the Wall separated the city into two halves for 28 years, I recommend a bicycle tour along the former inner city Wall. Particularly the Wall Panometer at Checkpoint Charlie, the DDR Museum and the exhibition of Everyday life in the GDR in the Kulturbrauerei represent vivid stories about border and separation experience. The former bordercrossing point Tränenpalast, which means Palace of Tears, at the Friedrichstrasse train station, and the freely accessible memorial on Bernauer Strasse are some of the authentic places.
