na certeza de ser lugar de
anonimato e proteção. Sua
acolhida a todos aqueles
portadores do transcendental
medo da solidão permite o
contato com o outro, o ver o
outro, o fazer-se ver.
É por seu espaço
democrático, mesmo nos
regimes políticos mais
fechados, que a praça
permanece até nossos dias
como o lugar de convivência
mais prestigiado pelo povo.
Lá, ainda que
momentaneamente, a
verdadeira liberdade parece
ter sido alcançada.

neglect through its capacity to

brought about by the passing

Both existential stage and
scenery, the square was, at all
times, a supporting character
in the play of history.
As a place of gathering,
it brings together the people
who come to it to celebrate
their life and death events,
encouraged by its promise
of anonymity and
protection. Since it
welcomes all those who
bear the transcendental fear
of solitude, it allows us to
make contact with others,
to see others, to be seen.
Even in the most
oppressive political regimes, it
remains as the venue of
democracy, and that is why
the square, to this day, is
favored by the people as their
main communal space. There,
true freedom seems to have
been achieved, even if
temporarily.
