Belém during the Belle Époque A Belém da Belle Époque 46 providenciou o ordenamento dos novos bairros afastados, realizando demarcações e incentivando o povoamento das periferias. Mesmo depois de demarcado o lote para construir o Palacete Municipal — situado ao lado do Palácio do Governo e inaugurado em 1883 — restou um grande terreno localizado em sua parte posterior desde o tempo do aterro do Piri. Em 1908, esse pedaço semi-abandonado seria urbanizado com apuro paisagístico e receberia o nome de Jardim Prudente de Moraes, em homenagem ao ex-presidente do Brasil. Nos dias atuais a denominação é de Praça Filipe Patroni, jornalista paraense com expressiva participação na história da imprensa escrita do Pará. Durante quase catorze anos, até a derrocada política de Antônio Lemos, o embelezamento urbanístico transformou Belém — outrora a longínqua capital do norte do Brasil — numa cidade bela, iluminada, pavimentada.
