Antonio Giuseppe Landi (1713,
Bolonha – 1791, Belém) arquiteto
italiano, viveu os últimos 32 anos
de sua vida em Belém, onde atuou
projetando e construindo as
maiores obras do século XVIII,
sendo referência destacada no
urbanismo da cidade.

sua frente se manteve o
Largo de Sant’Ana, hoje
Praça Maranhão.

vez maior de transformar
Belém na capital da
Amazônia e, por suposição,
na capital do reino
português, o governador
Fernando da Costa de
Athaíde Teive (1763–1772)
mandou construir o suntuoso
Palácio dos Governadores,
projetado por Landi. Esse
prédio, depois de sediar o
governo por muitos anos,
hoje abriga o Museu do
Estado. Landi, cuidadoso e
detalhista, refez a disposição
do edifício em seu projeto
final. Ele retificou o pedaço

Encouraged by the
growing prospects of Belém
becoming the capital of the
Amazonian region, and,
hopefully, the capital of the
Portuguese kingdom,
Governor Fernando da Costa
de Athaíde Teive (1763-1772)
commissioned the sumptuous
Palácio dos Governadores
(Governor’s Palace), designed
by Landi. That building was
the headquarters of the state
government for many years,
and now houses the Museu
do Estado (State Museum).
Landi, with great care and
attention to detail,
redesigned the building in his
final plan. He rectified the
