Frontal à igreja de Sant’Ana
projetada e construída pelo
arquiteto italiano Antonio
Landi no século XVIII, o
pequeno largo situado no
meio do centro comercial –
inicialmente chamado de
Largo de Sant’Ana –, durante
muitos anos foi palco das
cerimônias religiosas oriundas
da igreja e das festividades
que homenageavam a santa.
Durante certo tempo após
a edificação da igreja, possuiu
algumas poucas árvores
que serviam de refrigério
do sol inclemente aos
condutores de
carruagens e
charretes que ali
estacionavam,
aguardando os
freqüentadores
mais abonados
do templo
religioso.
Atualmente
servindo como
desafogo e
passagem aos
MARANHÃO SQUARE

Square
Located in front of the
Church of Sant’Ana, and
designed and built by Italian
architect Antonio Landi in the
18 th century, the small largo
in the middle of the
commercial center –
originally called Largo de
Sant’Ana – hosted for many
years the religious services
and festivities in honor of the
saint.
For some time after the
church was built, it had a few
trees that shielded from the
inclement sunlight the
drivers of carriages and
cabriolets, who parked
there waiting for the
more affluent
church-goers.
Nowadays it
serves as a
thoroughfare for
Praça Maranhão. O
