Ongoing monitoring of the ISO-certified security standards at<br />

the subsidiaries in Austria and abroad and the measures im<strong>pl</strong>emented<br />

to close identified security gaps enabled the BA-CA<br />

Group to boost security to the required and economically<br />

justifiable level.<br />

In the field of e-banking we im<strong>pl</strong>emented a number of measures<br />

aimed at raising our customers’ awareness of the risks involved<br />

in Internet transactions. Information and help on<br />

security issues is available to our customers and em<strong>pl</strong>oyees at<br />

http://sicherheit.ba-ca.com, and media reports describe possible<br />

exposure scenarios and suitable protection measures. If<br />

needed, customers can contact trained hotline and support<br />

staff for advice and immediate assistance on specific issues.<br />

With respect to information security, much effort was concentrated<br />

on Business Continuity Management (BCM), which is to<br />

ensure that banking operations can be maintained without<br />

serious disruption in the event of an emergency. A Group-wide<br />

model was developed and its step-by-step im<strong>pl</strong>ementation<br />

(based on roadmaps) in the entire Group including CEE subsidiaries<br />

has already been initiated. Should a critical security<br />

event arise, the SERT (Security Emergency Response Team)<br />

established at iT-Austria stands ready to take emergency<br />

action to prevent damage and to protect the BA-CA Group<br />

network.<br />

We achieved significant cost advantages by outsourcing<br />

activities related to maintaining operating security such as<br />

security patrolling and security services for events. BA-CA staff<br />

members responsible for these tasks were seconded to the<br />

respective service companies<br />

The rapid increase in bank robberies in recent years could be<br />

contained and kept at the previous year’s level by taking<br />

additional action.<br />

Infrastructure management<br />

BA-CA developed a new Windows XP-based work<strong>pl</strong>ace system<br />

running under the project name “HYPerPC GFA,” which will<br />

be im<strong>pl</strong>emented Austria-wide. The four large and independent<br />

work<strong>pl</strong>ace systems previously in operation within BA-CA<br />

will now be integrated into a single system, which will facilitate<br />

internal cooperation. The use of state-of-the-art technology<br />

will improve and speed up work processes and yield<br />

considerable cost savings in system operation and maintenance.<br />

Since July 2005, iT Austria has already installed some<br />

60 % of the new system. The project is to be com<strong>pl</strong>eted by<br />

the end of March 2006.<br />

in Central and Eastern Europe<br />

Based on a detailed IT assessment we have drawn up a<br />

roadmap for the technical integration of IT <strong>pl</strong>atforms at subsidiaries<br />

in all CEE countries in which both UniCredit and<br />

BA-CA are represented, i.e. Poland, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Romania,<br />

the Czech Republic and Bosnia. The go-ahead will be given<br />

as soon as the legal framework for the merger has been<br />

finalised. A central programme management unit will coordinate<br />

the integration programme.<br />

The IT strategy for CEE<br />

Work has begun on consolidating iSeries core banking systems<br />

from Central and Eastern Europe at a central location in Vienna.<br />

This will help to reduce operating costs and ensure round-theclock<br />

operating support and permits us to im<strong>pl</strong>ement economically<br />

efficient state-of-the-art emergency protection measures.<br />

Work on setting up the new infrastructure, adjusting<br />

the process organisation and establishing the legal basis for<br />

the new shared service standard was com<strong>pl</strong>eted within just six<br />

months. The com<strong>pl</strong>ete migration is to be concluded by the<br />

end of the first half of 2006.<br />

Merger projects in CEE<br />

30 September 2005 witnessed the successful conclusion of the<br />

legal and operative integration of Eksimbanka in Serbia and<br />

Montenegro after only 71/2 months. The Group’s well proven<br />

standard processes and systems were intro-<br />

requirements into account. In Bulgaria the<br />

technical, organisational and legal integration<br />

of the subsidiaries will start with the merger of HVB Bank<br />

Biochim and Hebros Bank in 2006 and will be concluded with<br />

the merger of the UniCredit subsidiary Bulbank in 2007.<br />

Our new subsidiary in Romania, Banca Tiriac, besides being<br />

adapted to the BA-CA Group’s system standards for a uniform<br />

IT landscape, will also change over to the CORE02 core<br />

banking system and to the new EzY Banking front end. The<br />

merged bank will also be upgraded to the Group’s latest IT<br />

security standard. Provisions have already been made to<br />

accommodate system technology requirements arising in the<br />

context of the upcoming merger with UniCredit Romania.<br />

With a view to supporting further market expansion, the<br />

Group IT standards will also be introduced in the newly<br />

acquired Nova banjalucka banka in Bosnia and Herzegovina<br />

in 2006. The technical realisation of these projects is in the<br />

hands of our IT solutions provider WAVE.
