**Tar decanter, ammonia saturator, and acid/caustic treatment sludges
soil, if it is in high concentration it often can be
recovered.
When the MGPs were operating, their byproduct
tars were processed by AlliedSignal, called the
Barrett Company at the time, to produce
creosote oil, roofing pitch, naphthalene and road

tars. AlliedSignal and its Environmental Systems
and Services group is still accepting and process
ing
the tar from these abandoned facilities. Al
though other sources of coal tar have been used
since the closing of the last MGP facility, it is still
possible to recover and reuse this material from
MGP facilities undergoing remediation.
