Note.—Thia city is not named in history except by Ptolemy and in the Notitise Episcopatuum ;<br />

nor can its situation ever be known but by the discovery <strong>of</strong> inscriptions ; but this may be hoped for,<br />

as other <strong>coins</strong> <strong>of</strong> Daldis are extant, as well autonomous, as imperial from Augustus to Gallienus.<br />

Artemidorus <strong>of</strong> Ephesus, whose work upon dreams (styled 'OvtipOKpiTixa) is extant, was called the<br />

Daldian, either as a native <strong>of</strong> this city, or as born <strong>of</strong> a Daldian mother. He informs us that Apollo<br />

Mystes was venerated at Daldis. An autonomous coin, described by Mionnet, represents the Roman<br />

people on one side, and Apollo, seated on a rock, on the other.<br />
