Note.—The goat alludes to the ancient name <strong>of</strong> a river, which joins the northern shore <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Hellespont, opposite to Lamps4ki (Lampsacus). I searched unsuccessfully on its banks for any remains<br />

<strong>of</strong> the city, ^gospotami, which these <strong>coins</strong> prove to have existed. According to the Ethnic given by<br />

Stephanus, the legend is an abridgment <strong>of</strong> It is<br />
