at PandoBia, the Brettii became more powerful than ever, and bo continued until they were finally,<br />

together <strong>with</strong> the Lueanians, subdued by the Romans, under L. Papirius Cursor, in b. c. 274. They<br />

had cultivated the language and arts <strong>of</strong> Greece, as appears from their <strong>coins</strong>, which rival in style those<br />

<strong>of</strong> the same age in other parts <strong>of</strong> Magna Graecia. Consentia, now Cosenza, was the chief town <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Bruttii (Strabo, p. 236), and here probably their money was coined.<br />
